How to get your products found in AI search and chat assistants

What changes when shoppers ask an AI instead of typing keywords, and how to prepare your product data.

How to get your products found in AI search and chat assistants

More shoppers now start with a question rather than a search box: “What is a good waterproof running shoe for wide feet?” Instead of ten blue links, AI search and chat assistants give them a short answer and a handful of products. If your products are not in that answer, you are not in the running.

The good news is that the things that help you appear in AI answers are mostly things that help shoppers anyway.

Write for questions, not just keywords

AI assistants pull from pages that answer questions clearly. A product page that says “Waterproof to 10,000 mm, wide fit available, suitable for trail and road” is far easier to quote than one that says “Our best shoe yet”.

  • Add the facts buyers ask about: size, fit, materials, compatibility, care
  • Use a short FAQ on key product and category pages
  • Answer in plain sentences an assistant could repeat word for word

Make your product data complete

Assistants and shopping engines rely heavily on structured data. Gaps in your catalogue are gaps in your visibility.

  • Fill in every relevant attribute, not just title and price
  • Keep prices, stock and shipping details accurate and consistent
  • Use product schema markup so machines can read the details reliably (see Google’s merchant listing structured data guide)

Build trust signals that machines can see

AI answers lean towards sources that look reliable. Genuine reviews, a clear returns policy, real contact details and an About page that explains who you are all count. So do mentions of your brand on other reputable sites, such as reviews, guides and industry press. Our brand mentions service helps you earn them.

Do not block the crawlers you want

Check your robots.txt and any security plugins. Some stores block AI crawlers by accident and then wonder why they never appear in answers. Decide deliberately which crawlers you allow, rather than leaving it to a default setting.

Track what you can

Visibility in AI answers is harder to measure than rankings, but you can still:

  • Ask the main assistants the questions your customers ask, and note who they recommend
  • Watch for referral traffic from AI tools in your analytics
  • Track branded searches, which often rise when assistants mention you

This is a young area and the rules are still changing, so focus on clear, accurate, helpful product information. It is the one strategy that works for search engines, assistants and shoppers alike. If you want a hand, see our AI search visibility service.
