A first-time visitor has no reason to trust your store yet. Before they buy, they are looking for signals that the product is what it seems, that they will receive it on time, and that they can get help if something goes wrong. Here is what makes a product page trustworthy.
Honest, detailed photography
Show the product from every angle, in use and at a clear scale. Include close-ups of materials and details. Photos that look too perfect can raise doubts, so mix studio shots with real-life images, and add customer photos if you have them.
Real reviews, including the imperfect ones
A product with only five-star reviews can look suspicious. Show the overall rating near the title, let shoppers filter reviews, and reply politely to negative ones. How you handle a complaint says a lot about how you will treat a new customer. Google’s guidance on helpful, reliable content looks for the same signals of trust.
Clear price and delivery information
Shoppers want to know the total cost and the arrival date before they reach checkout.
- Show shipping costs or a free-shipping threshold
- Give an estimated delivery date, not just a method name
- Make stock status clear, and say when an item will be back
Easy-to-find returns and guarantees
Put a one-line summary of your returns policy right by the add-to-cart button, such as “Free 30-day returns”, with a link to the details. A clear guarantee removes a big reason to hesitate.
Specifications people can check
Sizes, dimensions, materials, compatibility and care instructions should be easy to find and easy to read. A size guide or comparison table prevents both lost sales and returns.
Signs that a real business is behind the store
- A recognisable brand and consistent design across the site
- Visible contact options, such as chat, phone or email
- An About page that explains who you are
- Secure, familiar payment logos
Fast and stable on mobile
A page that loads slowly or jumps around as it loads feels less trustworthy, even if every other detail is right. Speed is part of the impression you make, which is why we include it in our speed optimisation reviews.
None of these changes are expensive, and together they make a noticeable difference to how comfortable a new visitor feels. If you would like an outside view, our UX research and web design teams review product pages and recommend the changes with the biggest impact.
